The Broken Record

someone gave you to me for free
it was doubtful i would like your style
but i never knock before i try.
so i tried you.
and after 2 or 3 spins of the needle
you seeped into my bones
and it was hard to shut you off.
your material was so humorous.
understanding... and reaffirming on bad days.
you were a new anthem for a single, city girl.
so i kept threading the needle.
and you kept me moving through the day.
3 full spins around [today]
and i haven't moved you from the player.
so i spin about my life and wait for the skip
you... you.... you... you... *thunk*
stall! right when the song gets good
you always break and make it worse.
how reliable.
so i move the needle back to the edge
and we take thing from the top
but i have to tell you -
i've been listening to you less
i'm getting tired of the skipping.
so monotonous...
those scratches on line 4 and 9...
can't fix themselves... and neither can i.
and sadly, you're not built for self repair.
so i keep wanting to buy a new record.
i mean... really, really want to.
but i just don't have the money for a new record.
and there's nothing out there i want to buy...
ever.
so i'm stuck with this broken record...
or no record at all.
Really. How long can you expect this girl to go without music?
it was doubtful i would like your style
but i never knock before i try.
