Thursday, October 11, 2007
Movie. Movie. Sami's got some mooooovies. Since Lars is only limited (i.e. NOt likely in denver) - you can bet your ass me and my sour jelly bellys are hitting the theater this afternoon for We Own the Night... Mostly so I can walk out feeling like a bad ass. Especially when I go spend money I don't have at the Gap aftwerward :)

October 10

Control (limited):
Key Players:Sam Riley, Samantha Morton, Craig Parkinson
Tag Line: None
The Jist: A profile of Ian Curtis (Riley), the enigmatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of 23 [imdb.com].
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Rock Stars always have interesting lives. Interesting History. Interesting Stories to tell... why do you think that's all i've ever dated? haha. I'm sure this is riveting...

October 12

We Own the Night
Key Players: Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendez, Mark Wahlberg, Robert Duvall
Tag Line: Two brothers on opposite sides of the law. Beyond their differences liew loyalty.
The Jist: A New York nightclub manager tries to save his brother and father from Russian mafia hit men. [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?:Looks awesome. Have wanted to see it for a few months now. Wish I would have seen Joaquin on TRL, Letterman, Etc. all week instead of Eva - but she's cool too... so i'll take it. Yes you will go! You know why? Because stuff like this does happen between brothers... and allthough this is a pretty extreme example - it'll still get the point across.

Canvas (limited):
Key Players: Marcia Gay Harden, Devon Gearhart, Joe Pantoliano
Tag Line:none.
The Jist:Ten-year-old Chris Marino (Gearhart), just wants to be normal but his mother's Harden) bouts of paranoia and delusion give new meaning to the term dysfunctional family. Dad, John (Panatoliano) breaks his back as a construction worker struggling to pay for Mary's doctor bills, and find the right medicine to treat her schizophrenia, leaving little time or energy to give to his son. When Mary's behavior takes a dangerous turn, father and son watch helplessly as the police drag Mary out of the house to hospitalize her in a mental institution [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Remember Life as a House? I imagine this to be a lot like that... giving you a glimpse into someone's home. This stuff happens all of the time - but you never know until you're given a front row seat. Bring Kleenex.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age:
Key Players:Cate Blanchett, Jordi Molla, Samantha Morton, Clive Owen
Tag Line:Woman. Warrior. Queen
The Jist: An exploration of the relationship between Elizabeth I (Blanchett) and the adventurer Sir Walter Raleigh (Owen) [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: I think Cate proved herself the first time around... Amazing Actress. A glimpse into movie-ized history -- good for a serious mood. It kind of just makes me want to watch Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette... Girl Power, bitches.

The Final Season (limited):
Key Players:Sean Astin, Rachael Leigh Cook, Tom Arnold
Tag Line: How do you want to be remembered?
The Jist: Kent Stock (Austin) distrupts his life to become coach of the Norway High School baseball team and try to lead them victory [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Oooooh, baseball. Perfect release time considering the World Series are right around the corner. I mean... Rachel Leigh Cook is in it, so it must be good... right?

Lars and the Real Girl (limited):
Key Players:Ryan Gosling, Emilty Mortimer, Kelli Garner, Patricia Clarkson
Tag Line:The search for true love begins outside the box.
The Jist: A delusional young guy strikes up on unconventional realationship with a doll he finds on the internet [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?:Oh my GOD! As if this weren't perfect timing. I'm sure you didn't miss my whole Shpiel on Love Me, Love my Doll (if you did, you can watch it -- it is linked on my side bar to the left). I LOVE RYAN GOSELING. I love it. I can't wait to see it. I hope Denver is lIberal enough to bring it to our theaters. If not - i'm sure it'll be at my local gay-borhood video store soon enough. WOOOOOOO!

Postal (limited):
Key Players:Dave Foley, Zack Ward, Chris Coppola
Tag Line: Some comedies go too far... others start there.
The Jist: In the ironically named city of Paradise, a recently laid-off loser (Ward) teams up with his cult-leading uncle (Foley) to steal a peculiar bounty of riches from their local amusement park; somehow, the recently arrived Taliban have a similar focus, but a far more sinister intent [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Somehow... this trailer doesn't seem to match up with the description at all... but i checked. and it's right. I don't know about this... i .... think i'll pass.

Rogue
Key Players: Stephen Curry, Michael Vartan, Caroline Brazier
Tag Line: Welcome to Terrortory
The Jist: An American journalist on assignment in the Australian outback encounters a man-eating crocodile...[imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Hi... Anaconda with a Crocodile. No Thank you. Too bad because Michael Vartan is YUMMY.

Sleuth (limited)
Key Players: Jude Law, Michael Caine
Tag Line:Obey the Rules.
The Jist: On his sprawling country estate, an aging writer (Caine) matches wits with the struggling actor (Law) who has stolen his wife's heart [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Love Michael Caine. Kind of Love Jude Law (mostly just in The HOliday). Seems a little Face offish - but it's a remake - so I guess Face Offish is a little Sleuthy. I'd have to be in the mood for this. and I'm not.

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?
Key Players: Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba, Jill Scott
Tag Line: Because we complete each other's sentences.
The Jist: A big screen adaptation of Perry's stage play about the trials of marriage, and what happens to one family when a sexy young temptress arrives on the scene [imdb.com]
Yay, Nay or Rental Play?: Oh, Janet. She's hot. She's fat. She get's thin again - and then she's toting arond an extra ass in those sweat pants of hers. Now she's gorgeous again and playing her cool J-card in this new film... ahh- the only normal Jackson. Gotta Love her. I'm going to save this for a "Waiting to Exhale" girls night when I'm stocking up on popcorn, brownies and diet coke.
