New Music/Movie Tuesday (9/18/07)

Tuesday, September 18, 2007
Here are all the albums hitting stores today, September 18, 2007.

I kept my thots short and to the point, mostly because I'm kind of unintrigued by recent music - tho there are a few good ones that show up every so often - i'm finding myself farely uninspired.

Let's see what you think:

Akron/Family - Love Is Simple
Folk/Accoustic/Indie
Apparently, there are 7 people in this band... but it sounds more like 3 (bagpipes/harmonica, drums, guitar) and often like 1 folk singer songwriter. It makes me feel like this is something I'd see in an Irish pub --- if I ever get over there...

The A-Sides -Silver Storms
Indie/Rock
I like it. Sounds local experimental -- great beats and something you wouldn't be surprised to hear in the background of a TV show or on a indiefilm soundtrack. Check out Sidewalk Chalk.

Babyface - Playlist
R&B
I sadly couldn't find anything on this album... which leads me to believe this is a UK release date. But babyface kicked ass in the 90s. i'm sure he won't disapoint us 7 years into the new millenium.

James Blunt - All The Lost Souls
Pop/Folk
James' sound has evolved a bit - but sticks true to the melodious sound of his last album -- this one is just a little less somber and a little more up-tempo. Oh, and he totally sounds like Tracey Chapman on his single 1973.

Chamillionaire - Ultimate Victory
Hip Hop
Too long of intros on every song... but most songs themselves are fierce (except for Industry Groupie, where his rap and the sample just don't seem to match up well enough). Definatly something you whip up in the club.

Keyshia Cole - Just Like You
R&B
Killer Voice. Love all those R&B Girls, but would have loved more singing - less rapping.

The Donnas - Bitchin'
Rock/Classic Rock/Alternative
The new image is very Kiss circa 2007 Girl Band. The girls still know how to bring it -- Thrash out in your car kind of a cd.

Kevin Drew - Spirit If...
Indie Alternative Rock
Presented by Broken Social Scene. So naturally - if you like Them, or Postal Service... mixed with Bright Eyes - you'll like Kevin.

Dropkick Murphys - The Meanest Of Times
Punk / Accoustic / Folk Rock
Angry Irish Drinking Music. I kind of wanted to start a clogging moshpit.

Eve - Here I Am
Hip Hop
I think this comes out Oct. 16 in the US --- so damn! you have to wait- but it's worth it. When doesn't eve bring it? Her current single Tamborine kicks it. Why didn't she open the VMAs?

Emmylou Harris - Songbird 4xCD rarities box
Folk / Alternative / Country
Emmylou is classic. If you like country - and you still haven't listened to her - you should probably be buying this.

Havoc - The Kush 4xCD rarities box
Hip Hop
Another Hip Hop/Rap Album *yawwwwwnnn* Kidding, Kidding. Nice raps. Crude Lyrics. you likey?

LCD Soundsystem - A Bunch of Stuff EP
Punk / Funk / Disco House
I have a few friends back in college that would love this. Mostly DJs (spin, not radio) --- Kind of Beck meets... hmm cake meets something more techtronic.

Ben Lee - Ripe
Pop / Rock / Alternative
I've never had any strong feelings of like or dislike for ben. I Kind if feel like... he's supposed to be in that really good group of 90s rock, but misses it for one reason or another...

Motion City Soundtrack - Even If It Kills Me
Rock / Pop / Punk
Oooh. for all you skater or bike park guys that love these guys and every other band that sounds just like them... this album is pretty decent tho.

Mya - Liberation
R&B
I honestly forgot she exhisted. Where has she been? R&B sex music. booyah.

Pat Monahan [from Train] - Last of Seven
Rock / Pop / Gospel
More bluesy than Train with good tone and lyrics. I tried to win tickets to see him in October tonight, but my story sucked, so no luck.

Me'shell Ndegeocello - The World Has Made Me The Man Of My Dreams
NeoSoul
Love love love love her. What a great soul, great voice. She's fun - she's soulful - she's genuine. Her new album is no exception.

Nelly - Brass Knuckles
Hip Hop / Rap
I can't... do it. But It's nelly - so i'm sure TRL will be all over that.

New Found Glory - From the Screen to Your Stereo Part 2
Pop / Punk / Hardcore
All the covers you'er so glad a punk band would cover. Johnny Cash - It Ain't Me Babe, Kiss me, Love Fool - Cardigans, Stay - Lisa Loeb (she's on the track), Iris - Googoo Dolls. bitchin.

Rogue Wave - Asleep at Heaven's Gate
Alternative
I really like these guys. I first heard them on Heroes (Your Eyes) then gripped onto Bird on a Wire. The new album is equally as good... Very ominous, full-sounding tracks. Great for that mood you're in.

KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic
Love the new single. Loved her last album. I hope she can carry it off with her Sophomore release. I've only heard the single - but it seems to be heading in a good direction.

Twista - Adrenaline Rush 2007
Hip Hop / Rap
You got your Gin? Your Juice? Your phat ride? How about allz the bling and million dollar grillz. You'll need it....

Matt White - Best Days
Surf / Accoustic / Pop
Upon reading the descriptive, I thot Jack Johnson. Then I heard his tracks and almost threw up my dinner. THis is so bubblegum it's disgraceful. Pass please.
