New Music/Movie Tuesday (10/1-2/07)
Tuesday, October 2, 2007
So many great people out this week - and I probably sound overtly positive about all of this crap but i think you, too will be surprised.
So first - everything else:
New on DVD:
Fantastic Four - Rise of the Silver Surfer
1408
Eye of the Dolphin
Civic Duty
Jindabyne
Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a plane
Species IV: The Awakening
Entourage: Season 3
Criminal Minds: Season 2
I love New York: Season 1
The Sarah Silverman Program: Season 1
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Season 3 (YES!)
Gotta love tv on dvd.
Even better - gotta love new music to fill your car with sound -
1 October Monday
Stereophonics - Pull the Pin UK only; US TBD:
Indie / Rock
I FREAKING LOVE STEREOPHONICS. Most likely because they were introduced to me by my first first love - an adorable brittish boy who's heart I broke (not on purpose) that sent me three of their cd's from over seas. The lead singer's voice is so exceptionally different than I love them for life. This album gets a little more upbeat and rock from their past albums - but i think you should try it...
2 October Monday
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Magic
Rock
The Boss is Back. The boss is Rock. He'll always bring it - and you know it - so just buy his album already.
Peabo Bryson - Missing You
R&B / Christian / Classical
You know you want to get your "Soul" on in your car. It's the akward music that comes on when you're riding in the car with a good friend and you're both too embarassed to admit that you love the music - then end up bonding over a loud chorus (think Tommy Boy).
Vanessa Carlton - Heroes & Thieves
Pop / Rock / Jazz
Hi, five years later. Where the hell have you been, Vanessa? Too busy Doing Stephen Jenkins (3eb)??? Welcome back to the music scene, beyotch. The single is growing on me. I hated the video and that it started out just like her first hit -- and to tell the truth - i kind of found her last album obnoxious -- kind of like Fiona Apple but unable to pull off the dramtic singing faces and not melodramatic enough. Hopefully this is better... and she's not such a brat this time around :).
The Cult - Born Into This
Rock / Alternative
Completely not what I was expecting. Mellow Alternative. Kind of The Darkness meets Tool meets The Cure meets 80s rock (not hair) bands. Lots of influences in there - judge for yourself and see who you fish out.
Dashboard Confessional - The Shade of Poison Trees
Accoustic / Rock / Indie
I always think of two people when I hear Dashboard confessional from my Junior year art class -- Abe the Babe and this guy who's name I can't remember - except that he used the moniker "TheShortBus" on Instant Messenger. They always talked about how they were hardcore Dashboard fans far before they blew up and they were so pissed they got popular and *dun dun dun* sold out. But then they kind of just got really good at pegging the whole Emo pop scene and you know you were singing Vindicated everytime you saw Spiderman. The album is catchy and good for the road - so go ahead and call it a guilty pleasure - and just realize that everyone sells out at some point.
John Fogerty - Revival Greatest-hits
Rock / Classic Rock / Bluegrass
Get in touch with your old, southern side. Don't have one? Get in touch with someone else's (Or have someone touch Kentucky). What?
Faith Hill - Hits Greatest-hits
Country / Pop
Who things Faith Hill is hot? Me. Who thinks she it's unfair she's had numerous children and is still skinny as skinny jeans? Me. Who thinks she kind of turns into a bitch when some chic grabs her man's junk on stage? YOU! It's her greatest hits - if you like her -then buy it - because it kind of makes complete sense... like the junk-grabbing.
Annie Lennox - Songs of Mass Destruction
Pop / Alternative
Bitchin' LEGEND. Annie Rulez my world and her new album is no exception to all of her past material. I am going to buy this - and then dance around my apartment in my underwear --- singing into a hair brush.
Matchbox Twenty - Exile on Mainstream
Rock / Pop / Accoustic
I love the new single. love. love. love. Song catchy - positive. Rob Thomas is the man. I sound like Suzy Optimistic this week - but it's not my fault that all of the awesome musicians in the universe decided to put out their albums on the same day. For all of you Angie Stevens listeners... doesn't this remind you of ... "all the things you'd say - as I finally walked away... I'll rescue you -until you can rescue yourself..." Crap - i can't think of the song - but same smart structure. Hooray for new Matchbox.
Most Serene Republic - Population
Indie / Experimental / Progressive
Orchestral, guitar, technology, piano -- the moving kind of music - that is very different - but you will like if you are experimental. try it.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
Country / Rock / What?
Very Robert Plant with Alison's gorgeous voice and a little blue grass from union station thrown in. Delicious. You can hear their single, Gone, Gone, Gone here, which has been recieving a bunch of radio play lately.
Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover
Electro / Indie / Other
I love it. So experimental and fun. Kind of like you'd go see a live dj mixing with... a little added extra. Vocals sound a little like Modest Moust - but the beats are much different. Def. try it out.
